The little roaster and the student art project that started this adventure
Beanpeace Roastery is currently leading the pack by having the most nominations in our Finder411 “Show Some Love” North Carolina small business contest. This will be the first in a series of blog posts spotlighting North Carolina businesses feeling the love from people who realize supporting locally owned and operated businesses is the way to go.
Elizabeth Dorr, owner of Beanpeace Roastery, grew up in a family that loved & worked in the food and beverage industry, so it’s no surprise that even though her formal education was engineering, she started her small business roasting coffee beans.
Dorr returned to the southeast from Portland, Oregon in 2011, moving to Durham because she sensed the smaller tar heel-based town was on it’s way to “eatery” stardom. Early last year, she began practicing the art of coffee bean roasting, experimenting with different beans and roast profiles. By March, she’d sold her first bag and things took off from there.
